Wichita Choral Society Rehearsals

The Wichita Choral Society welcomes anyone who loves to sing - auditions are not required!  Our chorus is comprised of singers from all walks of life, from amateurs to professionals, young and old alike.  The common denominator is the desire to sing and a genuine love for making music.

An annual tradition for more than 73 years, the WCS performs Handel's Messiah in late November along with commissioned members of the Wichita Symphony Orchestra and prominent area soloists. Rehearsals for the performance of the Messiah begin the first Monday in September after Labor Day.  Rehearsals are held every Monday evening from 7p.m. to 8:30p.m. at Calvary United Methodist Church, 2525 N. Rock Rd.,  Wichita, culminating in a performance on the Sunday after Thanksgiving.

Our spring concert usually consists of lighter fare with a performance in April or early May and features the Harold Decker scholarship recipients.

Each member is asked to pay dues of $20 per semester and to purchase new music as necessary.  However, if you've sung the Messiah in the past and have your own copy, you are encouraged to use it.

So what are you waiting for??  Come check us out - we are sure you'll want to join in the fun!

The Wichita Choral Society was established by Harold Decker to fill a need for a community chorus in Wichita.  Winter 1945 saw the first “Messiah” performance, starting a tradition broken only 3 times in 62 years.  The Wichita Choral Society has enjoyed the leadership of 12 directors over the span of 73 years.
